Housing Choice Voucher Section 8, Scattered Sights, and Pioneer homes Portal

The Lexington Housing Authority (LHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open. This waiting list is open indefinitely.

Portability 

Portability is only available to a Voucher holder after you have lived in Dawson or Phelps County for 12 consecutive months.

Applicant may port if and only if all of the following are true,

1) The Head of Household or spouse currently resides in the LHA’s jurisdiction at the time of application.

2) The LHA may allow the early port to respond to a special family need, (job, or series medical issues).

3) You must meet the income limits of the Housing Authority to which you port. 

If these requirements are not true, then portability will not be granted.

This waiting list has preferences. This means that applicants who qualify for these preferences will receive assistance before applicants who do not. Because of these preferences, applicants who do not qualify may have a longer wait to receive assistance. 

A HCV voucher can only be used in Dawson, Phelps, and soon Gosper counties and you must complete a year lease on the voucher program before you can move. 

Dawson County includes; Lexington, Cozad, Gothenburg, Sumer, and Overton.

Phelps County includes; Holdrege, Loomis, Bertrand, Atlanta, and Funk.

Gosper County includes; Elwood, Smithfield, Johnson Lake,

All applications are completed online, if you do not have a computer or access to the Internet please visit  LHA office, located at

from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. CT,
Monday-Friday.

Once complete you will receive a communication via e-mail or mail to start your initial workflow. Once that is complete you can schedule an appointment. 

Please have all documents available to upload to the website, as you will be prompted to submit paystubs, tax forms, and documents through the portal.

Be sure to include these documents with the application: Social Security Cards and birth certificates for all household members, and photo IDs for all adult household members. All adult household members must be present when handing in the application.

The LHA does have a preference for elderly and disabled applicants.
